Purpose Driven Rife

I sat down to work on the new website. Started to make a page called "About Us".

Then it hit me, "Why should I make an About Us page?"

Should I call it simply "About"?

Whats the purpose of this page?

Ah... there we are... Purpose...

I remember this.

Years have a way of taking their toll on on you. Anyone still in their teens who happens to read this would do well to take note but if memory serves... that ain't in the cards. You've got a long way to go, I hope, and someday you'll look back at the person you once were.

In that moment you will respond in one of a handful of all too common ways.

See, humans are predictable. Don't let 'em tell you any different. We're all built the same yet amazingly diverse in our idiosyncrasies and yet we, time after time, go to the same watering holes of habit but I digress...

that happens when you get old...

So this handful of ways that you'll invariably use as a looking glass through the corridors of your lifetime. One response might be to see the person you once were and feel a strong desire to find Doc Brown, hit those 88 miles per hour, locate yourself, and punch that person in the throat. You'll feel this way because... well... you deserved it. That's normal, healthy, and this kind of regret makes you a better person. Its like a signal flare for all of time radiating outward the reality of your glorious fallibility.

You need to learn that. If you have you know I'm right... if you haven't... well... you still know I'm right, you're just kiddin' yourself.

On the other end of the spectrum we have the absolute worst thing you could possibly feel.
Complete satisfaction and almost a sense of longing to return to "those days" because, well, things have only gotten a little worse since then. You were so smart, had it so together, and yet... it all slipped away.

Or maybe it didn't. Maybe your life just seems mediocre now.

Like leftover fast food microwaved to remove any semblance of nutrition that might've been in there to begin with.

So what on earth does this have to do with purpose?

Well... what's yours?

Do you hang on the coattails of your parents or worse... your friends? Most do.

Do you feign originality all the while looking over your shoulder at what everyone else is doing...

So you can walk in step.

Are you faking boldness to cover your cowardice?

I have some advice for you that really applies across the board.

Fall down.

Try something.

Think outside of the box. And I don't mean in this pseudo intellectual second year college kid who took one semester of philosophy kind of way. I mean REALLY think deeply because I assure you most of what is pushed as intellectual substance these days is worse than a microwaved five day old big mac.

I'll rant about that later, the point is you desperately need to scrape your knee to learn that its not going to kill you. You also need this to teach you how not to fall down the same way.

You're going to do a lot of stupid things but by God's ferocious love soaked in His unbelievable grace you just might make it through.

And above all I urge you to, every night before you rest your first world problem filled head on that comfy pillow in your central air/heated home... I urge you to thank Jesus Christ for letting you have another day to breath His air.

That's my purpose. To glorify Him. Its all about Him.

Echoes of What Ought to Be

Golden sunlight filtered by tint softly invading your automobile with a great song on the radio at highway speeds. No traffic, just you, the road, and the music. I know I’m not the only one who’s had the feeling that all is right in the world while on the open road with a great track list. Some would say we come from the happenstance of random atoms bumping into one another but I’d bet dollars to donuts they’ve had the experience of pretending like the song on the radio is their soundtrack for the moment. But why? Could it be that there is a part of us longing for a real serenade really meant for us every moment of our lives? Quiet when the time calls for it and loud when nothing else will seem to do. The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by his love; He will exult over you with loud singing. – (Zephaniah 3:17) Why does every story have the weak in need of salvation or the unlo...

A Happy Bear

Had I been given a million chances I’d have never guessed my life would end up how it is. I write this from the second floor of our home listening to my son sleep through the baby monitor as my wife gets ready for bed. It’s a nice house, too, something that just two years ago we couldn’t have hoped to own. Adding to that it’s our second home, in just a couple years. Two nice cars sit in our garage. One of them is even a Lexus.  And yet this is not the life I wished for all those years ago. So if all my wildest dreams didn’t come true why do I feel so blessed? Because enough of my dreams came true to make me realize I wasn’t really in need of fulfillment in all the ways I could imagine. I was in desperate need to be fulfilled in all the ways I COULDN’T imagine. There was once a ship looking for shore when the saw in the distance an island. The crew then noticed a boat leaving that island. Coming alongside the crew gave salutations to which the other crew exclaim...
