Seems like an odd question, right? Well, think about it before you
answer.
I mean, safety is a good thing right? Think about how hard
we try to secure comfort and peace. Think about how many barriers we install to
insulate us from things that might invade our homes. Think about the ways we
keep our children from the latest Acronym-Free toy (right now its BPA). These
are all good things. We live in a world saturated in the common grace of a good
and wonderful God who deserves every ounce of energy returned in praise.
But.... always a
but... we live in a world that is not without flaws. In fact, we live in a
fallen world that more often than not echoes from its avalanches and screams
from its hurricanes that there is something very wrong that needs to be made
right.
In a nation obsessed with safety we advocate wars on drugs
that only build criminal empires, we advocate wars on terror that only
propagate hatred for us, we advocate wars on poverty that only makes the chasm
between the rich and poor wider and wider and wider... and we advocate
lifestyles of people that we claim to care for when we know that the road paved
with suffering ends only in death all for the pursuit of something as fleeting
as momentary physical pleasure.
We watch people dance with demons and tell them its a good thing as
long as they're happy.
... but if a guy carries a pistol without a shiny badge he's
a weirdo. If a guy has a defensive rifle to stop a threat that might come
against his home he's deemed ridiculous. When did this become a nation of
people who would rather operate as if bad things WON'T happen instead of a
nation where people practiced prudence and operated as if things could happen.
You don't have a spare tire because you're afraid of flats.
You have a spare tire because you might have a flat.
So maybe the next time you want to ask a guy what he needs
XYZ weapon for just ask yourself what you need that spare tire for.
You don't want to be stuck on the side of the road at the mercy of cell
service and strangers.
I don't want to be stuck in a bad situation at the mercy of cell
service and strangers.
There's this guy, James Yeager. Tons of great info.
Everything from firearms stuff to medical and food preparation. The guy isn't a
Christian but he's definitely a blessing. Anyhow, he does this thing in just
about every video with a firearm. Its called a "danger check". Its in
direct opposition to the common outcry of people who get all up in arms when
someone doesn't clear a weapon on camera before demonstrating something with
it.
I was in a meeting today thinking about this subject of how
unbelievably insane our culture is about safety and how it stands in a stark
contrast to the backdrop of all the evils that we witness on a day to day
basis. People actually think you're a crazy person if you store some food and
defensive stuff in case something happens and the stores can't be resupplied
for a long time.
WE are the crazy ones because we look at an unstable
situation and think "maybe we should put a little back". We are the
weirdos because we keep a few gallons of gas and some extra food in case of
disaster. We are the nuts because we don't want to be in the mob cleaning out
krogers' in the first 3 hours after something bad happens.
This civilization we have is balanced on the edge of a
razor. You don't realize that if your neighbor is hungry enough he'd kill you
for your food. You think that is an absolutely insane proposition, too...
because most people reading this haven't gone a day in their life without being
able to get food in their stomach.
Ask people who have walked those roads how bad it can be.
Not to be scared, to be prepared, and to not take for granted the blessings you
have. We have this glorious opportunity to put back and store up for when
something bad happens but most of us live on a half empty pantry because half
our diet is composed of fast food or frozen dinners.
We used to be a nation of people who accomplished things. Now we are
just consumers.
Try to think of the last thing you built from your own imagination.
See what I mean?
So the question remains. "Are you dangerous
enough?". This isn't regarding your kung-fu skills or your inability to
stop texting while driving. What I'm asking is "Are you purposefully
intentionally dangerous in ways that you ought to be dangerous or are you at
the mercy of a system that you take for granted?
I am making a new site. www.DangerCheck.com and its purpose is that
end.
So… are you a lion or are you just a pussycat?
