I haven’t written in a while. Life is starting to pick up
speed. It’s amazing how time almost has a sort of momentum to it. The older we
get the quicker the sand seems to fall. This morning as I sat on the couch with
my son, my only begotten son whom I love, he reaches up and grabs my face. He’s
done it a thousand times by now. His
chubby little fingers damp with slobber clumsily making their way across my
face, sometimes he grabs my nose, sometimes he almost pokes me in the eye, and
sometimes he just grabs a handful of my cheek with a toothless grin shining on

I don’t think it will ever get old.
The other day a thought sailed through my mind. This is how
I am loved by my Father in heaven and if you are His, if you are in Christ and
He is in you, that is how you are loved as well. Am I offended when my son’s
meat hooks dig into my sideburns to tug them like he’s pulling weeds? Not at
all, that would be silly because he’s my boy. I don’t just tolerate it, either…
I LOVE it. I love his fat little hands slapping at my face, not because I’m a masochist,
but because even though he has no idea what’s going on and even though if he
does that ten years from now it’ll go bad, for the moment this is his way of
saying “I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON BUT I LOVE YOU AND I WANNA KNOW MORE
ABOUT YOU GIMME ATTENTION CAUSE I LOVE YOU”.
I think this is what Christ meant when He said “Let the
little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the
kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14). I
don’t think he meant this in some vague hippie “all people are God’s children”
sort of way. I think He really meant “God’s kids reach for His face with all
they have”.
So the next time you’re at the end of your rope and you
think you’re bugging God because He’s got better things to worry about than the
thing you think isn’t as horrible as world peace just remember He loves it when
you reach wildly for His face to find it with your clumsy little hands. He
loves it and He does not run from it… He moves toward it.
Reach and grab for the face of God lest all of your days
pass by without ever basking in the mutual joy to be had with the glorious
Father in heaven through faith in Jesus Christ.
