The end of time is easily understood. Jesus comes back, trounces his enemies, glorifies those who fall upon Him, restores creation to its former glory, and everyone lives happily ever after (unless you're an unrepentant enemy of God).
This is what people long for. A king who returns, redeems, and restores. A prince who rides in on a white horse to save the day. A glorious ending to a tale filled with turmoil and a punishment fitting for the enemies of the crown. Its the details prior to this event which keeps us guessing.
We didn't invent this story and here's how I know that: we are the bad guys. ALL of us. The only difference between the redeemed and the damned is one clings to Christ while the other clings to their pride. Both start in the same position longing for the happy ending.
Everybody wants that. Why do you think stories exist? COUNTLESS tales of woe where tears become joy, the weak get saved, the prideful get punishment, and the king returns to His rightful place as ruler of a kingdom.
You dance and cheer your favorite band because you were MADE for worship. You cheer your team and jeer the opposition because you were MADE for worship. You long for justice to be served because you were MADE in the image of God who has imbued you with a conscience that screams to have crimes paid their due.
One day The King will walk on this soil again and the focus of the whole world will look at that place where He crushes His enemies with an indignation only hinted at the last time He walked this spec of a blue ball and all of creation will shudder at the desperation displayed by those who for so long have sought to postpone that day.
But the day will come and a people will be redeemed and justice will be served.
Faith and hope will have no
more function.
What was hoped for will be present and the person in whom we have faith will have done what He promised.
Only love will
remain and on that day...
